What is hydroseeding and when is it used?
Hydroseeding is a process where seed, mulch, fertiliser and a binding agent are mixed with water and sprayed onto the ground using specialist equipment. It is particularly effective for large-scale projects, steep embankments, highway verges and sites with difficult access where conventional seeding methods are impractical. The mulch layer retains moisture, protects the seed and promotes rapid germination.
Can you create wildflower meadows on highway embankments?
Yes. We regularly establish wildflower meadows on highway embankments, roadside verges and other infrastructure corridors. Our teams carry out soil assessment, ground preparation and bespoke seed mix selection using UK-native species suited to the local conditions. Hydroseeding is often used on steeper gradients to ensure even coverage and reliable establishment.
What seed mixes do you recommend for different sites?
We source seed from leading UK seed houses and select mixes based on the specific requirements of each site. This includes native wildflower blends for biodiversity and pollinator habitat, hard-wearing amenity grasses for sports pitches and public open spaces, and specialist mixes for slope stabilisation or waterlogged ground. How long does it take for seeded areas to establish?
Establishment timescales depend on the seed mix, soil conditions, time of year and weather. Grass seed typically begins to germinate within 7 to 21 days, with a usable sward developing over 8 to 12 weeks. Wildflower meadows usually require a full growing season to become well established, with optimal display often appearing in the second year. We can also supply turf where instant establishment is required.
Do you provide aftercare following seeding or turfing?
