Lowther were appointed by Glencar Construction to deliver all landscape construction works at the new Moderna Research Centre at Harwell Campus in Oxfordshire.
Overview
The project formed part of the construction of a new pharmaceutical research facility at Harwell Campus, with Lowther appointed by main contractor Glencar Construction to carry out the full landscape package. The scope included SuDS drainage features, large-scale specimen tree and shrub planting, and the construction of splice gardens and rain gardens across the campus.
Works Undertaken
Swale areas were constructed using SuDS 37 wildflower turf to manage surface water runoff across the site. We installed 160 trees ranging in girth size from 14/16 rootball to 35/40 rootball, including a significant proportion of heavy specimen stock.
The planting scheme included over 12,000 10-litre shrubs contract-grown at our own nursery alongside Robin Tacchi Plants. Species included Hamamelis Arnold Promise, Sambucus Nigra Black Beauty and Cotinus Coggygria Royal Purple. Splice gardens and rain gardens were then constructed using over 17,000 5-litre shrubs incorporating a range of perennials and grasses.
