National Highways, NHSS

Lowther Forestry Group holds ongoing accreditation to the National Highways Sector Schemes 2A and 2C. As approved highways fencing contractors, we deliver compliant, high-quality fencing and barrier solutions across motorways, trunk roads and strategic routes throughout the United Kingdom.

What NHSS 2A and 2C Covers

NHSS approval confirms that our teams meet nationally recognised standards for quality, health and safety, environmental management and biodiversity. This is evidenced through continuous independent auditing and external accreditation. All solutions are designed specifically for highway environments, where reliability and compliance are essential.

We deploy accredited supervisors, specialist plant and digitally tracked workflows to keep programmes on schedule while minimising disruption to traffic and communities. All operatives hold required sector qualifications and CSCS/CPCS cards. Works are executed to Scheme 2 standards alongside our ISO quality and environmental procedures.

Our Scheme 2A and 2C accreditation covers the supply, installation and repair of boundary fencing including BS1722 Parts 1, 2, 4, 5, 7 and 11 (chain link, wire mesh, chestnut pale, close boarded, post and rail, and wood panel fences), post and panel concrete fencing, BS EN 12839 precast concrete products, CIRIA C646 wildlife design guide fencing, gates, stiles and ancillary structures, and environmental barriers covering both structural and acoustic applications.

Engineered for
High-Security Sites

Bespoke concrete formwork and foundations, advanced ducting for services, and integrated electrification for energy and infrastructure perimeters. Built and finished in-house.

A National Fencing Contractor Built on Long Relationships

Most of our fencing work comes through repeat relationships with main contractors, energy companies and public bodies. The same contracts managers tend to stay with those clients, so scope, standards and site knowledge carry over between projects. The quality of our concrete finishes and the security specification of our perimeter installations are well established with clients in the energy and infrastructure sectors.

Common Questions About NHSS Fencing Services

What is NHSS 2A and 2C?
National Highways Sector Schemes 2A and 2C are independently audited accreditation frameworks that set quality, safety and environmental standards for fencing and barrier installation on the strategic road network. Holding this accreditation confirms that a contractor meets the requirements to work on motorways and trunk roads.
Why does accreditation matter for highways fencing?
Highways fencing operates in high-risk environments where public safety is paramount. NHSS accreditation ensures that contractors maintain verified standards for workmanship, risk management, environmental protection and workforce competence. It provides assurance to clients that all works will be delivered to a consistent, auditable standard.
What fence types are covered under your accreditation?
Our Scheme 2A and 2C accreditation covers a wide range of boundary fencing types, including chain link, wire mesh, chestnut pale, close boarded, post and rail, wood panel, post and panel concrete fencing, and BS EN 12839 precast concrete products. We also deliver wildlife fencing to CIRIA C646 guidelines, gates, stiles and environmental barriers.
Do all operatives hold sector qualifications?
Yes. All operatives working on highways fencing projects hold the required sector qualifications along with valid CSCS or CPCS cards. Supervisors are individually accredited under the relevant sector scheme. Competence records are maintained and audited as part of our ongoing accreditation.
Can you support emergency works on the strategic network?
Yes. With national coverage and dedicated project management, we are able to mobilise teams at short notice to support emergency fencing repairs and replacements on the strategic road network. Our accreditation and established supply chains allow us to respond efficiently when urgent works are required.
