Lowther were appointed by Vinci Construction to deliver all landscape construction works at the new Moto motorway service station at Junction 1 of the M6 in Rugby.
Overview
The project formed part of the construction of a new motorway service station, with Lowther appointed by main contractor Vinci Construction to deliver the full landscape package. The scope covered front-of-house planting, car park bio-retention features, SuDS drainage infrastructure and extensive tree and shrub planting across the site.
Works Undertaken
Front-of-house works included the construction of raised planters, shrub beds and hedge lines. Eighteen car park bio-retention areas were constructed incorporating glacial boulders, cobbles and pebbles, integrating drainage function with the landscape design.
Swales and weirs were installed to receive and filter site surface water runoff before releasing clean water back into the local stream network. Strata cells were installed to the building and car park frontage to support 11 extra heavy standard trees in the hard-standing environment.
The soft landscaping included the installation of over 400 semi-mature trees alongside approximately 12,000 native whips and transplants. Wildflower seed was sown throughout the site.
