We assess each site, recommend the best approach and use specialist stump grinders and mulchers to grind stumps to the required depth or remove them fully, including stubborn root systems. Debris can be removed for recycling or mulched on site for reuse as a soil amendment.

Common Questions About Stump Removal

How deep can you grind a tree stump?
We typically grind stumps to a depth of 150 to 300mm below ground level, which is sufficient for most landscaping and replanting purposes. Where a site requires deeper removal, for example ahead of construction or utility installation, we can grind further or remove the stump and root plate entirely. Our team will assess the site and confirm the appropriate depth before work begins.
Can you remove root systems entirely?
Yes. Where full root removal is required, we can excavate and extract the root system in addition to grinding the visible stump. This is common on development sites where foundations, drainage or services need to be installed. We use specialist plant including excavator-mounted attachments to handle large or complex root systems safely and efficiently.
What happens to the debris after stump grinding?
Stump grinding produces wood chip and soil material which can be left on site as mulch, used to backfill the hole, or removed entirely. We discuss disposal preferences during the initial site assessment and tailor our approach accordingly. Where material is removed, it is taken for recycling wherever possible.
How long does stump grinding take?
The time required depends on the size, species and accessibility of the stump. A single medium-sized stump can often be ground in under an hour. Larger stumps, those with extensive root systems, or stumps in restricted-access locations may take longer. For large-scale clearance projects, we will provide a detailed programme and timeline as part of our proposal.
Can you clear multiple stumps on a development site?
Yes. We regularly carry out large-scale stump clearance for construction, infrastructure and land development projects. Our fleet of specialist equipment, including self-propelled stump grinders and excavator-mounted mulchers, allows us to clear high volumes efficiently.
