Lowther were appointed by Siemens Transmission and Distribution Ltd to design, supply and install the full CAT2 perimeter security fencing package at the Triton Knoll offshore wind farm onshore substation in Lincolnshire.

Overview

The Triton Knoll project required a high-security perimeter fencing system meeting National Grid specification TS2.22. The installation covered the full external perimeter of the onshore substation and included internal separation fencing for the HV substation area, requiring a coordinated design and phased installation programme.

Works Undertaken

The external perimeter fencing was designed, supplied and installed as a full CAT2 palisade system, electrified in line with National Grid specification TS2.22 Issue 4 (January 2013). The palisade was constructed to a total height of 3.4 metres, incorporating an electrified 2.4-metre steel palisade base with the electrified pulse system above.

Internal equipment fencing separated the HV substation area from the general plant area using 1.8-metre chain-link type fencing, providing the required safety separation for dangerous high-voltage equipment within the site perimeter.
