Lowther were appointed by Bowmer & Kirkland Ltd to deliver the soft landscape and sports pitch construction works at the new Belvidere School in Shrewsbury, Shropshire.
Overview
The project formed part of the construction of a new school, with Lowther appointed by main contractor Bowmer & Kirkland Ltd to carry out the external landscape and sports pitch package. The scope covered the full construction of the playing surfaces together with the soft landscape areas across the campus.
Works Undertaken
The sports pitch works began with a cut and fill exercise to establish correct levels across the site. We then installed 3,000 metres of lateral drainage connecting into a 150-metre carrier drain, creating the drainage infrastructure required beneath the pitch formation.
Four hundred tonnes of sports sand were imported and incorporated to achieve a stable, free-draining base. Seeding was completed by drilling in two directions, promoting an even and consistent sward across the full pitch area.
Outcomes
The contract includes a 12-month maintenance package covering the sports pitches. This incorporates weekly mowing, fertiliser applications, verti-draining and secondary drainage works including sand top-up, supporting proper pitch establishment in the year following construction.
